Biography
Melissa has a post-graduate diploma in Genetic Counseling and a Bachelor of Social Work. She has been working as a genetic counselor for 15 years and has a central role in the Perinatal Medicine and Genetics Services at the Mercy Hospital. Melissa provides essential support and pre pregnancy counseling for couples with a high chance of a genetic condition in their offspring, as well as support for those experiencing unexpected news regarding the development of their baby during pregnancy. She links families into important resources and specialists at the hospital and offers ongoing support through their pregnancy.
Melissa is a fellow of the Human Genetics Society of Australasia and sits on the HGSA Board of Censors, which is the peak accrediting body for postgraduate genetic counselling programs and for the certification of genetic counsellors.
