How do I refer a patient to a Mercy Perinatal clinic?
Referrals to the Department of Perinatal Medicine, Mercy Hospital for Women, can be made using the forms provided below. We request detailed information on the reason for referral, test results from the current pregnancy (including routine booking investigations) and patient demographic information.
What is the waiting period for appointments?
We endeavour to respond quickly to all referrals and prioritise women according to medical need. Urgent referrals are seen within 14 days or less, depending on the clinical situation. If you wish to speak to one of our medical staff to discuss the priority of your referral, our maternal fetal medicine fellow is available through the hospital switchboard. After-hours emergencies should be discussed with the obstetric registrar on call, who will liaise with the maternal fetal medicine or obstetric consultant of the day.
What if my patient has a suspected fetal anomaly?
We have a Fetal Intake Worker on site Monday to Friday to look after urgent matters relating to suspected fetal abnormalities and to see women at short notice to coordinate care and support. If you wish to arrange a tertiary obstetric ultrasound for a suspected fetal anomaly, please contact our Fetal Intake Worker directly, who will ensure that appropriate ultrasound appointments and clinical review are arranged for your patient. Our Fetal Intake worker can be contacted in Perinatal Genetics department on (ph) 03 8458 4346, Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.30pm.
