This Twilight will addressing two of the most challenging conditions arising from the diseased placenta: pre eclampsia and fetal growth restriction. It’s ‘The Pla-centre of Gravity’ at Twilight.
1. Preeclampsia: will it ever be a treatable condition?
Professor Stephen Tong has spent his research life looking for new ways to treat conditions in pregnancy, particularly preeclampsia. He will give us a fresh 2021 update on whether treatment is possible, current drugs in the pipeline and what drugs might be nearing prime time. This will be a world class talk by one of the undisputed leaders in the field internationally, and rings a bell of hope for this devastating condition which claims the lives of 70,000 mothers and 500,000 babies every year.
2. Fetal Growth Restriction: can we move from confusion to consensus?
Professor Sue Walker will discuss the challenge facing the diagnosis, detection and management of fetal growth restriction in the face of competing international guidelines. We’ll walk through diagnosis and management of early and late onset fetal growth restriction plus ask the big question ‘has the time of routine 3rd trimester scan’s finally arrived?’.
Then, the snack box returns! We’re leaving a bit of time for ‘messages in a bottle’ for clinicians at the coalface. Things are changing so quickly these days, so it could be a quick update on anything…from one of the very recent papers, FAQs on Sotrovimab in pregnancy to ‘activities for your 261st day in lockdown’. Quick snippets for the clinic brought to you from the Mercy Perinatal team.
