Our speakers and topics
The first ‘Medical Disorders in Pregnancy (MDIP) at Twilight’ will be held on Wednesday, February 23, and you will be glad to know that COVID is not the Medical Disorder under discussion for once! We have two fabulous speakers lined up for you.
- Dr Sarah Price is Head of the Obstetric Medicine Unit at the Women’s and is a wonderful obstetric physician with an exciting and growing research profile in obesity and diabetes in pregnancy. Sarah is a wonderful speaker and on Wednesday the 23rd will be giving us an update on ‘Obesity in Pregnancy’. This is such an important topic for all of us delivering obstetric care, and Sarah is just the person to give us insights on the evidence-based approach to managing women with obesity prior to, during and after their pregnancy.
- Dr Kathy Paizis heads up our Medical Disorders clinic here at the Mercy. Kathy is a highly accomplished renal and obstetric physician who is always one of our favourites in the MDIP lineup! Kathy will be tackling the very ‘at the coalface’ topic of ‘Abnormal Liver Function in Pregnancy: now what?’. All of us find it hard to remember what the liver function profile is telling us, and how to investigate thoroughly and responsibly for pregnancy and non-pregnancy related causes. This practical talk will walk us through the pearls of liver assessment, what matters and what to do next.
We’ll then wrap up with a few quick highlights from the obstetric medicine literature, and then over to you for questions!
