Summary
Just a few days ago the BIG BABY trial was published in Lancet. A ginormous trial to see whether inducing big babies reduces the risk of shoulder dystocia. It has ‘landmark' written all over it. Wow (and we patriotically thought the Aussie election was the story of the weekend).
Should the findings of ‘the BIG BABY trial’ change your practice immediately?
The Global Obstetrics Journal Club team are pouncing on this one. Tune in as an international stellar panel will scrutinise this paper on May 14th, 17:00 Melbourne (AEST) / 08:00 UK (GMT) (An hour earlier than our usual Twilight start time!)
We are also covering a second paper looking at whether a short duration of steroids prior to preterm birth is useful. This is super clinically relevant. We have all seen the scenario – mum’s contractions are ramping up. The preterm bubby will likely pop out within hours…. is it even worth a slug of steroids?
Again, we will have our resident Prof. from Oxford (Aris Papegeorghiou, Scan Academy). Our guest panelists are Prof. Michael Stark (Robinson Research Institute/University of Adelaide) and another big wig. Also coming along is the merry gang from Mercy Perinatal - Sue, Stephen, Rox and Anthea 😁.
The papers will be first presented by Rox and Anthea. We will then hear Sue interview the lead authors. After that, the expert panel will discuss the paper. We will also leave plenty of time for Q&A so the worldwide audience can join us in the room.
