Summary

We are thrilled that Global Obstetrics Journal Club is back for another year! Join us on the 12th of February, for this online event, jointly hosted by Scan Academy, UK, (www.scan.academy) and Mercy Perinatal.
 
At this international zoom gathering, we will present 2 recent obstetrics trials (more details below 👇). We will get the ‘back story’  in author interviews with Prof Sue Walker. And then, a small panel of esteemed experts will review, discuss and dissect the paper. Importantly, the experts will be asked what they think the trials mean to everyday clinical care.
 
We are so thrilled we will have big name experts ‘in the room’ from Oxford (Aris Papageorghiou, Scan Academy) and Cambridge (Gordon Smith). Not to mention the gang from Mercy Perinatal (clearly an institution of equal standing to the ones Aris and Gordon belong to 😁).

As always, we will leave plenty of time for Q&A from the worldwide audience through the chat. In the past, we have been honoured to find super famous obstetricians joining as audience members, and sharing their wisdom.

Paper 1: Can a blood test safely replace ultrasound at 36 weeks screen for growth restricted babies at risk of poor outcomes?

Angiogenic factors versus fetomaternal Doppler for fetal growth restriction at term: an open-label, randomised controlled trial.

This trial randomised 1088 pregnancies at 36 weeks gestation either US (estimated fetal weight and Dopplers) or an sflt/PIGF ratio, to screen for, and manage fetal growth restriction.

Paper 2: Is the monoclonal antibody Nipocalimab a wonder drug that can prevent profound fetal anaemia and risky intrauterine transfusions for isoimmunised pregnancies (antibody positive)?

Moise et al. Nipocalimab in early-onset severe hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2314466

This is a phase 2, single-group, open-label trial where an intravenous infusion of nipocalimab was given to pregnancies at high risk of severe hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn. The primary endpoint was live birth at 32 weeks or later, without the need for intrauterine transfusions.
