Summary
This Twilight seminar focusses on two important perinatal infections in our community - syphilis and HIV. We screen all pregnant women for these infections, but how up-to-date are we with their management and treatment?
That most ancient of diseases, syphilis, was historically a major cause of stillbirth, congenital malformations and ill health at across the lifespan. Unfortunately, congenital syphilis is now resurfacing as a result of a global epidemic affecting many counties including Australia.
So we are particularly thrilled to have A/Prof Clare Nourse AM, paediatric infectious disease specialist, coming down from Brisbane to speak to us on the Australian outbreak and how we should be addressing this preventable disease in the 21st century.
We will also be addressing another important global health problem for women and babies, HIV in pregnancy. There have been huge advances in the treatment of HIV - come and get the latest expert update on how women living with HIV should be cared for during pregnancy and how we can best prevent mother-to-child transmission.
As always, our Twilight seminars are free but please register your attendance with us using the link below for catering purposes. Remember, refreshments from 6.00pm, and talks commence at 6.15pm sharp!
