Summary
When a fetus is diagnosed with a large neck mass that threatens to obstruct the airway at birth, an EXIT procedure - ex utero intrapartum treatment - can be a lifesaving intervention. In this procedure, the fetal head is delivered by Cesarean section and the airway secured with intubation, all while maintaining the rest of the baby in utero on the placental circulation. This requires seamless teamwork between obstetricians, paediatric surgeons, anaesthetists (adult and paediatric), neonatologists, theatre staff, midwives and NICU nurses.
This seminar will take you through the complete story of our recent EXIT procedure at the Mercy Hospital for Women, presented by our several of the key team members, and concluding with an interactive panel session.
