We’re so excited to bring you another fantastic Twilight Seminar: 'The Syphilis Epidemic and Penicillin in Pregnancy', on Wednesday 24 June at 6:00pm (AEST). ✨ This session will tackle two major challenges in contemporary maternity care: the current syphilis epidemic and how best to manage affected pregnancies and newborns, and the growing effort to safely de-label penicillin allergies in pregnancy. While especially relevant to syphilis, this is an increasingly important issue as indications for penicillin expand, including GBS, operative birth and caesarean section.
We have a wonderful line-up of speakers to guide us through this complex and rapidly evolving area.

Professor Lisa Hui is well know to many of you, not only for her return appearances at Twilight, but as one of the GOU Four! We are thrilled she can join us at this Twilight to discuss: ‘Syphilis in 2026 - what maternity clinicians need to know’.
A maternal fetal medicine specialist with expertise in fetal medicine, genomics and prenatal screening, Lisa is a recognised leader in prenatal diagnosis, perinatal epidemiology and congenital infections. She has multiple leadership and advisory roles with professional societies, government departments, and health services.
Professor Cheryl Jones is a world-renowned paediatric infectious diseases physician clinician-scientist and health and medical educator. Her research, particularly on childhood encephalitis, vaccination and mother to child transmission of infections, has significantly influenced global health policy.
Cheryl is the Dean of UNSW Medicine and Health, a Director of the Australian Medical Council, an Executive Member of the AAHMS Council, and a Director of the Ramsay Health Care Research Foundation. We are so excited to hear her discuss 'The Newborn at Risk: Assessment and Management of Congenital Syphilis'.
