By 2014 our MDIP seminars had outgrown the lecture theatre capacity at the Mercy Hospital for Women and this year we moved to the convention centre at Leonda by the Yarra. However, we still managed to fill this venue and have people on the waiting list for last-minute tickets! Over 400 midwives, doctors and specialists from Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Warrnambool, Bendigo, Bairnsdale and Foster attended our 2014 MDIP seminar.
We had a terrific line-up of talks from obstetric physicians, obstetricians and anaesthetists on key clinical topics including: cardiac disease in pregnancy, Why mothers are still dying in 2014, obstetric hematology, the new diagnostic criteria for gestational diabetes, the surgical abdomen in pregnancy, "Is 40 the new 30?" and "Managing the obesity epidemic".
The overwhelming attendance was a reflection not only the quality of the speakers, but also the fact that Victorian clinicians recognise the importance of working collaboratively when caring for women with complex medical problems during their pregnancy. Thanks to our many medical student volunteers who helped make the day such a success!
