The antenatal diagnosis of a cleft lip and/ or palate is confronting for many parents. Yet it is also one of the abnormalities that we, and the families we care for, are glad to have known about prior to birth. Prior knowledge allows for us to thoroughly assess the fetus for any related problems, and ensure the parents have met a plastic surgery team to discuss cosmetic and functional outcomes, as well as paediatricians and midwives to discuss early postnatal care, particularly feeding.
This Twilight seminar will feature the latest in multidisciplinary approaches to cleft lip and palate from a distinguished line up of speakers.
1. Obstetric Ultrasonologist, Dr Michael Bethune FRANZCOG COGU (Mercy Hospital for Women) will be addressing the ‘Antenatal Diagnosis of Cleft Lip and Palate’
2. Paediatrician and Medical Geneticist, Associate Professor Tiong Tan FRACP PhD (Royal Children's Hospital) will speak on ‘How and why clefts occur: genetic mechanisms and clinical associations’
3. Dr Jonathan Burge FRACS, Chief of Cleft and Craniofacial surgery, Royal Children's Hospital, will walk us through ‘Postnatal assessment, surgical repair and long term outcomes.’
As you can see, this will be a fantastic night of education and we look forward to seeing you there. As ever, our Twilight seminars are free, but please register below for catering purposes.
